What to know
Casio's MUDMAN has always been defined by purpose rather than elegance. The latest GDG-B100 takes the Master of G formula—shock resistance, sealed controls and aggressively protective architecture—and makes it more accessible to people who move between rugged environments and everyday training. A new high-contrast Memory-in-Pixel display and Bluetooth connectivity are central to this evolution.
Its exterior is inspired by the protective bumpers of off-road vehicles and survival equipment. A complicated stack of moulded parts sits around a carbon-fibre-reinforced resin core, while the band and bezel interlock to reinforce connection points. Gasketed button shafts resist intrusion by dirt and mud. Far from merely decorating the case, these structures are part of its utilitarian identity.

The MIP screen is perhaps the most meaningful improvement. It makes timing and training data easier to read in bright sunlight, while an automatic red LED backlight helps maintain night vision in the dark. Even the prominent digital typography serves a practical purpose: reducing the effort needed to find essential information under demanding conditions.

Beyond its core watch functions, the GDG-B100 offers step counting, pace, distance, speed, lap recording, interval timing and estimated calorie expenditure. Bluetooth links it to the CASIO WATCHES smartphone app for time synchronisation, settings, activity logs and notifications. Smartphone GPS can assist with distance calibration, but the watch is not advertised as having onboard satellite positioning.

The watch measures 63.6 by 49.6 by 16.2mm, yet weighs just 66 grams thanks to its bio-based resin and carbon construction. Water resistance is rated at 200 metres, and Casio quotes approximately two years of battery life from a CR2032 cell. Three launch colourways include the desert-toned GDG-B100-1A5 featured here, plus black and green-accented alternatives.
There is a compelling design lesson in this MUDMAN: toughness does not have to mean technological stagnation. Its new display, thoughtful lighting and training functions reinforce what the watch was always intended to do—stay legible, useful and dependable when conditions are less than comfortable. The result feels like an evolution of the field instrument, rather than a gadget borrowing its looks.
