What to know

The 2023 GWF-A1000APF-1A was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of FROGMAN, and few G-SHOCK watches are more immediately recognizable. Inspired by the vibrant poison dart frog, it surrounds a black analog diving dial with a translucent bezel shot through with blue, orange and black. The deliberately chaotic patterns are formed by laminated carbon and glass fibres, so the precise markings vary from watch to watch.

Casio extends the amphibian inspiration beyond its bezel. Its speckled fluoroelastomer strap receives polarised colour treatment that changes character under different viewing angles, while the engraved frog symbol on the caseback is redesigned for the anniversary. The combination of scientific material experimentation and playful imagery makes the watch a perfect example of why G-SHOCK has remained visually experimental.

Its large 56.7 Γ— 51.7 Γ— 19.7 mm case houses a carbon monocoque structure engineered for ISO 200-metre diving water resistance. The analog movement uses rapidly moving dual-coil motors, Tough Solar charging, Multi Band 6 radio correction and Bluetooth connection to the CASIO WATCHES app. A diving log and tide information extend its practical capabilities well beyond its dramatic colouring.

At 110 g, the watch is surprisingly light for its footprint. It is a watch that draws attention to its exterior, but the strength of the FROGMAN idea is that the colour and construction are built on a genuine instrument designed for demanding aquatic conditions.
