What to know
Angelus has found a clever way to make a small, historically minded chronograph feel sportier without changing its basic proportions. The new Chronographe Tachymètre takes the architecture of the 2025 Chronographe Télémètre and replaces its distance-measuring scale with a tachymeter. The change sounds minor, but the new markings and colour combinations shift the watch from a vintage instrument of observation toward a compact expression of motoring style.
The 37mm case wears its inspiration lightly. Satin-brushed surfaces and polished lug chamfers bring definition to the steel versions, while a box-shaped sapphire crystal reinforces the period character. The single chronograph pusher is integrated into the fluted crown, keeping the silhouette unusually clean. At only 9mm thick, it avoids the top-heavy impression common to more elaborate mechanical chronographs.

Three finishes explore distinct personalities. Steel Grey pairs a grainy silver dial with recessed petrol-blue subdials and a blue tachymeter rehaut, supported by a navy calfskin strap. Steel Pink takes the same design in a warmer direction with a salmon dial and silver counters. The 18-karat yellow-gold edition introduces a matching gold-toned dial, sage-green registers and a green leather strap. Rather than merely swapping straps, Angelus makes colour an integral part of each version's identity.

The calibre A5000 is a hand-wound monopusher chronograph produced within the La Joux-Perret manufacturing group. Its 3Hz frequency, 42-hour reserve and slim 4.2mm construction help explain the watch's modest profile. Through the sapphire caseback, gold-coloured plates and bridges reveal decorative finishing including Geneva stripes and circular graining. The dial places small seconds at three o'clock and a 60-minute totaliser at nine.

Limited production underscores the exclusivity: 50 Steel Grey examples, 30 Steel Pink and just 15 in yellow gold. Announced in October 2026, the steel watches are priced at CHF 18,500 and the gold version at CHF 34,600. The achievement here is one of restraint. Angelus has created a more energetic chronograph through a single functional scale, disciplined finishing and carefully considered colour, without losing the poise of the underlying design.
